Bem Gil, a 25-year-old musician from Rio de Janeiro, began to play the guitar in 2001, influenced by the friend/teacher Cezar Mendes, from Bahia. While taking guitar classes, he finished a two-year course on music teaching initiation at Uni-Rio (Tepem). The year after, he participated as actor/musician in the film “1972”, where he met his present band partner and friend Rafael Rocha. From then on, his interest in the electric guitar grew, and in 2003 he was invited by his father Gilberto Gil to play on his “Trio Elétrico” in the carnival of Salvador. Between 2003 and 2008, he played at carnival every year, together with artists such as Toni Garrido, Sandra de Sá, Mart’nália, Arnaldo Antunes, among others. In 2005, he joined his sister´s Preta Gil band, who was launching her second album, and, in 2006, he was invited to take part in Gilberto Gil´s band, already beginning with a summer tour in Europe. He participated as guitarist in the recording of Gil´s Banda Larga Cordel album and in this project world tour, traveling through Europe, the United States, and Asia. In 2008, he was invited by Gil to a voice and guitar show, featuring only the two of them. The show was filmed and recorded at the end of 2009, becoming the Banda Dois CD/DVD. Since 2007, he has been the guitarist of Tono band, which he founded, having recorded one album named "Tono Auge". Nowadays, besides the band, he goes on playing with Gil and, in the meantime, in “Noite Preta”, Preta Gil´s present show/night.
